Amthal Fire and Security is reminding van owners to be proactive in securing their vehicles following a recent spate of tool thefts.

The Safer Neighbourhood Watch Team (SNT), in collaboration with Hertfordshire Police has issued the warning following a developing trend of work tools being taken from vans in the local area.

Latest UK crime statistics suggest van owners and operators are targeted an average of 624 times per day, which equates to over 225,000 break-ins or attempted break-ins each year often without the use of extreme force.

Says Jamie Allam, Commercial Director of Amthal Fire and Security: “Leaving a van unattended for just a few seconds is enough time for an opportunist to strike with devastating effects for the owner in terms of significant cost implications and even loss of livelihood.

“Simple measures can make all the difference to avoid falling victim, even just parking vans so that they can be seen!  Also investing in quality locking mechanisms, in fact we would advise double locking if facility is possible, alarm systems and most importantly, removing tools overnight for total peace of mind security.”

Police advice, if you have power tools, is to ensure that you keep a record of your serial numbers and register them on  Please remain extra vigilant and report anything you believe suspicious on 101.

For more information or advice on how to keep your van secure, please contact Amthal Fire and Security.
