BAFE Recognises Amthal Fire & Security's Education Campaign

British Approvals for Fire Equipment, BAFE, has noted Amthal Fire & Security's campaign to promote fire and security awareness in schools.

The independent third party certification, registration body for the fire protection industry has written to Amthal Fire & Security, itself BAFE registered, after seeing our communications on promotion of good practice for schools' fire protection.

Says Jamie Allam, Commercial Director of Amthal Fire & Security: "To have our campaign recognised by BAFE is a great achievement and will only enforce our messaging to schools to be aware of fire safety and security.  We are working with local schools in partnership to really understand the bespoke requirements and create solutions to ensure peace of mind to all who work, learn and visit."

In 2009 the Association of British Insurers identified that "twenty schools a week suffer an arson attack, disrupting the education of 90,000 schoolchildren, causing damage costing £65million." (ABI news release ref. 141/09) The protection of students, teachers, equipment and property based on a full, expert risk assessment demands that the companies who install and maintain the fire protection meet the highest standards.

BAFE is the independent third party certification, registration body for the fire protection industry. We develop schemes for UKAS accredited certification bodies to assess and approve companies to recognised standards. Our aim is to support property managers and specifiers to ensure that they get quality fire protection for their premises, staff and service users. There are currently over 1150 registered companies from all parts of the UK.

The DCLG says: "We support third party certification schemes as an effective means of assuring the quality, reliability and safety of products and services, and recognise the valuable role BAFE plays in bringing to the marketplace recognised registration schemes for these products and services."
