Amthal Designs Showroom Security with Alfresco Living

Amthal has worked closely with Alfresco Living to design and install fire and security solutions for its chic new showroom and present ultimate protection for staff, visitors and premium products in storage.  Hertfordshire based Alfresco Living specialises in the supply and installation of superior outdoor products for homeowners to maximise usage of their garden, terrace or patio space.  Making a significant investment in a new showroom, Alfresco Living decided upon Amthal as its fire and security partner of choice, working in partnership to create a bespoke solution without impacting on the style and feel of the new facility’s design.

Adam Rayner, Director at Alfresco Living commented: “The new showroom is the ideal place to present product examples from our high-end product range. We wanted to create an open and welcoming environment, but at the same time we were very conscious to ensure the right security was in place to protect against risk of vandalism or theft.

“Amthal, a local company, came highly recommended and made an instant impression. The team worked closely with us and offered professional advice throughout, from initial design to the organisation of a smooth installation of the bespoke intruder alarm system. They also ensured we achieved the necessary requirements for fire safety.”

Jamie Allam, Commercial Director Amthal Fire & Security added: “What our work with Alfresco Living demonstrates is our preferred approach to working with clients, in true partnership style.  This is right from the beginning of a project, so we can fully understand the objectives when it comes to fire and security.  ‘By doing so, we can not only provide bespoke solutions that offer the necessary level of protection, but also ensure any systems installed, operate to blend with its surroundings and in this case, not impact on the intended ambience of the showroom creation.  The result is a safe and secure environment for visitors to relax and experience the high-end products on offer.

Amthal Fire & Security is working closely with Hertfordshire Police and management teams at St Albans’ Christopher Place to ensure the safety and security of all who work and visit the leading shopping centre.

Based in St Albans, streets surrounding the shopping centre, located at the heart of the city, were becoming a notorious route for criminal getaways. Amthal stepped in with Police and Christopher Place’s management to upgrade surveillance cameras and ensure maximum coverage and security.

Says PC Sean Woods of Hertfordshire Constabulary: “We are constantly working to improve the safety and security of St Albans’ city centre.  This is not only by encouraging the General Public to remain vigilant without causing alarm, but also in partnership with management teams at prevalent destinations to see where action can be taken.  “At Christopher Place, state of the art CCTV cameras are now in situ to complement Police patrols and offer constant monitoring and zoom functionality. Already making their mark, the improved visibility means our local community and the people who work and visit the vicinity are even better protected in the fight against crime.”

Christopher Place has also recently upgraded the CCTV cameras throughout the luxury centre to offer extra peace of mind for staff, shops and visitors.

Catherine Morris, Centre Manager added: “Our top priority for Christoper Place is our pledge to the retail owners and our visitors to ensure they have an enjoyable experience in a safe environment.  Every detail in the management of the centre is constantly being checked to ensure we achieve this aim.  “The completion of the CCTV works is just one example of this commitment.  We chose to improve our CCTV systems with Amthal as a local company who understands the Centre and knows the City.  Together, we worked with local Police in the upgrade process to ensure cameras were not only upgraded but also carefully positioned to maximize their potential and present complete peace of mind.”

Paul Rosenthal, Amthal’s Sales Director concluded: “Security technology is moving so fast that we wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we just installed cameras, without constantly reviewing their functionality, position and effectiveness.  This is especially true in busy environments where a crime can be committed in seconds, leaving no evidence behind.  “What Christopher Place shows is the importance of not being complacent, even in relatively low crime areas such as St Albans. And it’s about not just considering own facilities, but also the impacts of immediate businesses and surroundings, to ensure everything is being done to protect the welfare of our community.”

Amthal Fire & Security partners with Jollyes Petfood Stores through its ambitious growth plans, maintaining all fire and security services as it expands its store services across mainland UK.

Since its launch in 1971, Jollyes has grown into one of the largest chains of pet food superstores with 56 Jollyes stores across the UK, celebrating its newest opening in Perth, Scotland.

With plans to open five further stores a year, the company needed to ensure a consistent and reliable level of service from suppliers, especially when it comes to fire and security.

St Albans based Amthal, which has been working with Jollyes since 2009 has developed a bespoke nationwide service including maintenance work, monitoring, fault call outs and new store installations for all fire, intruder and CCTV operations.

Says Jim Warke, Director of Jollyes Petfood Superstores:

“This is an exciting time for Jollyes as we are committed to our growth plan, with three new stores already in the pipeline for next year.  However, just as important is for us to look after our existing stores, especially in terms of security for our staff and our customers.”

“Since we started working with Amthal, they have proven to operate to a high standard, always ensuring our fire and security equipment is up to date and operating effectively.  For existing stores, Amthal provides ultimate peace of mind and new stores can be opened on a much tighter timeframe, with the efficient and flexible services provided.  And if we do have an issue it is dealt with instantly and hassle free.”

Paul Rosenthal, Sales Director for Amthal Fire & Security added:

“Jollyes came to us originally to consolidate its fire and security services both from a cost and resource perspective but also to ensure one point of contact that can serve all its stores.”

“The recent opening in Perth represented Amthal’s first contract in Scotland, and whilst we know the company could easily have chosen a more local supplier to the store, it demonstrates the benefits of being a total solution provider that is consistently dependable to ensure all fire and security requirements are achieved.”

Bespoke Cycling, with latest stores in Canary Wharf, Gresham Street near St Paul’s and Jermyn Street presents the world’s finest cycling products and cutting edge 3D and 4D technology that aims to bring performance and enjoyment gains to its clients.

With significant investment in each of its store locations, Bespoke Cycling was keen to offer the highest level of protection for the benefit of staff and visitors on site, and partnered with Amthal Fire & Security, who following a survey of each site individually, specified a unique security solution.

As well as installing latest intruder alarms, Amthal Fire & Security also added smart CCTV and specialist electronic article surveillance tagging (EAS) to prevent shoplifting. The installation was seamless and worked around Bespoke Cycling’s fit-out schedule to ensure minimal disruption to each store.

Says Liam Lynch, Operations Manager of Bespoke Cycling:

“At Bespoke Cycling our desire is to marry world-class products, professionalism and integrity with a level of customer service and support that is unique in the industry. This is something we vehemently want to protect and looked to the security industry to source the latest solutions to ensure our products, staff and visitors are safe and secure.

Amthal Fire & Security instantly stood out with the level of care and attention paid to ensuring the right security system was selected for our purposes. Not only did they complete a full site survey at each site, but then worked out a works programme for the installation process to operate within our very tight fitout schedule. The result is a seamless integration of security which is hardly noticeable and can be managed centrally, to offer powerful protection.”

David Williamson of Amthal fire & security added:

“Bespoke cycling presents a unique offering to ensure bike and rider are matched perfectly and scientifically. Within their stores there is an obvious need to protect the high value investment in bikes and accessories on display. It was therefore essential that specification and installation was carefully planned whilst ongoing maintenance continues to evolve with the exciting dynamics of the store.  We will continue to work closely with the team to ensure they are comfortable with the security measures in place and feel it is by its nature ‘protecting what’s precious’ for bespoke cycling, its staff and visitors.”

Christopher Place was experiencing a number of technical problems with their CCTV system which was no longer fit for purpose yet could not be updated easily.  In addition, some parts of the shopping centre were not protected adequately by cameras, leading to security issues.

Christopher Place is a luxury shopping centre situated in the heart of historic St Albans, home to an unrivalled collection of designer brands in fashion, beauty, jewellery, accessories, homewares and gourmet food. Trend-conscious shoppers flock there for stylish shopping, delicious dining and workouts at the gym. Wit h the us er-friendly Security system provided by Amthal, CCTV recording is easy and future updates will be simple to implement. Teething problems have been swiftly resolved and critical evidential recordings are easy to supply.

Although the CCTV system was maintained by a well known, national supplier, the company had not identified or reported the many serious failings in the system and that Christopher Place was wasting money by repairing, rather than replacing, critical parts of it.

When called in, the Amthal team listened to the centre’s particular requirements and then devised a cost-effective, long-term solution, only supplying the management with what they needed at the time.

Later Amthal replaced the entire system, adding to the number of cameras by coordinating new ones with existing equipment.

The outcome is that Christopher Place now has a CCTV system that is fit for purpose and that covers all areas of the centre. Moreover, it was delivered on time and on budget.

"I have no hesitation in recommending Amthal unreservedly. The company is approachable and personable yet very down to earth. We were as important to them as a multinational; nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend Amthal to any business, regardless of size or sector."

Catherine Morris, Centre Manager
