Amthal has worked with Garston Manor School to create a scaleable security solution to upgrade the fire and security systems in place and maintain it to the highest quality for the benefit of staff, pupils and visitors.

Garston Manor School is a specialist school for autism, learning difficulties and speech and language, with a vision to ensure all students leave school as confident and self-reliant individuals, following a learning experience that is rewarding and enjoyable.  To ensure all staff can focus on this mission, Amthal carried out an investigative site visit, to understand existing fire and security systems in place, and make recommendations on how to build on, complement and maintain it, using latest technology.  The local fire and security specialist also then carefully created a works programme to complete additional works and ensure a maintenance programme was in place to look after intruder, CCTV and fire systems on site.

Says Caroline Caisley, School Business Manager at Garston Manor School:

“The school firmly believes in creating an environment whereby all students have the right to access learning at a level and setting appropriate to their needs that will enable them to enjoy and achieve. To ensure this can occur, we must establish an atmosphere of trust, security and mutual respect.

“Security in this respect is an absolute priority for the school, right from the perimeter and the site boundaries through to all internal areas.  Amthal understood this and developed a works programme to maintain all our fire and security systems.  We have been very impressed with their sensitivity to the school’s aims and vision and care taken in looking after our site.”

David Williamson, Account Manager at Amthal added:

“By its very nature, Garston Manor is a specialist school with very focussed aims and a vision to encourage every child who attends to enjoy their learning experience, celebrate their individuality and make the best possible progress and attainment.

“Our role, following the site survey, is to support the site management team and continue to look after the fire and security systems, eliminating any concerns and planning works necessary around learning timetables.  This way, staff can commit to their integral role in each child’s life, and students can learn in a safe and secure school environment, all without affecting every day operations or the aesthetics of this educational facility.”

Amthal’s Gold Star For Security With The Orion Primary School.  The Orion Primary School is working directly with Amthal Fire & Security to create bespoke fire safety and security solutions at its new and growing site, to protect pupils and staff, inside and outside the classroom.

The Orion Primary School is part of a federation of two schools that forms a large learning community.  In 2014, it moved to its current site, doubling in size to offer a four-form entry.  The school continues to expand to offer the very latest learning facilities and commit to its ‘Gold Star Primary Learning’ approach to its students and provide a brighter future.

Amthal has worked directly with the school to update its intruder system and integrate CCTV and access control solutions, which can easily be added to as and when the school adds new, often prefabricated, buildings on site.  Internally, refuge alarms, disabled emergency control and fire safety systems have also been installed.

Says Karen Hawkins School Business Manager at The Orion Primary School:

“With the continuing addition of new learning facilities across our site, we recognised that we needed to have measures in place to maintain integrated security.  Amthal was able to offer an all-encompassing solution that could grow with us.  “The concept of just having one point of call is brilliant, as it means fire safety and security can be maintained and updated as and when required. This all adds to the smooth running of the school and means staff and pupils can make the most of the teaching and learning opportunities provided inside and outside the classroom, all in a safe and secure environment.”

Amthal has been careful to balance security updates with ensuring a pleasant environment is maintained for the benefit of all staff, pupils and visitors.  The same is true for the Nursery facilities offered on a different site, where Amthal also looks after the fire and security arrangements.  The quest of The Orion Primary School - its ‘Gold Star Primary Learning’ approach to each child’s educational journey - is to provide the very best start, whilst ensuring lessons and activities remain creative and fun, simple and ‘inspires the children to become very special.’

David Williamson, Account Manager at Amthal says:

“Our aim is to ensure the teachers and all staff can focus purely on delivering the quest of the school without needing to be concerned about the safety or security of the site.  By being the preferred supplier, it means as the facilities grow, we can work around learning timetables as and when required to design, install and maintain systems and solutions.”

Verulam School was experiencing a number of problems with security and called in Amthal to undertake a thorough review of all the security on the large site.

Verulam School is a high achieving academy for boys in St Albans with an impressive record of academic and sporting achievement. It is also renowned for its commitment to the community along with its many extra-curricular activities. Verulam has recently renewed the annual contract wit h Amthal due to the superb service provided by the company. As a result, we are now working on a new entry system for the school

Director Paul Rosenthal immediately identified a number of serious deficiencies in the system and advised the school how to terminate the existing contract without financial penalty.

Then, within minutes of the termination, the Amthal A Team checked over the system in minute detail, fixed any problems and ensured total security for the staff and pupils whilst on site. Paul then allocated a dedicated experienced engineer to the school to respond immediately to any outstanding faults. As a result of our work, the number of fault calls has been dramatically reduced.

The school is now totally secure, giving peace of mind to staff, management, pupils and parents. This allows the staff to teach in a relaxed atmosphere, unconcerned about external issues such as intruders or alarm failures. Amthal has saved Verulam School time through reducing fault calls and saved valuable budget with a highly cost-effective service.

Five years ago when I took over the school we had a number of security issues. Now, thanks to Amthal we have a system that works well with few problems. In a competitive market, I was very lucky to find a company that truly put my thoughts first, listened to what I wanted and delivered exactly what they said they would.”

Amthal Fire & Security is the security partner of choice for the prestigious St Margaret’s School, to provide peace of mind to all staff, pupils and visitors without compromising on the 19th century architecture of the Grade II listed building.

St Margaret’s was founded in 1749 and owned by the Clergy Orphan Corporation until 1996 when it became a fully independent school for girls, aged 4 – 18. Today, the school is the UK’s longest running girl’s boarding school and one of the oldest independent girls’ schools in the UK and the oldest in Hertfordshire.

Working closely with Amthal Fire & Security, an integrated access control solution alongside bespoke class change systems have all been carefully installed to work around learning timetables and remain sensitive to the historical design of the buildings.

Colin Currie, Facilities Manager at St Margaret’s School says:

“As a school, it is our absolute priority to ensure the security of everyone who works and learns here. In addition for St Margaret’s, the historical significance of the school as a prominent educational establishment is essential to protect and it is our responsibility to make sure it is cared for at every level.

“Amthal Fire & Security certainly did its homework in taking the time to survey the site and came up with a flexible maintenance programme that achieves all these objectives on an ongoing basis. They are always available and offer good advice on anything security or fire safety related, to the extent that we consider them our true security partners. We are continually looking at ways to grow our relationship and enhance our security across the school’s 74 acre site.”

Says David Williamson, Account Manager at Amthal Fire & Security:

“Security and safety in schools is undoubtedly a highly emotive subject and one which is never far from the conscience of those involved in the implementation of an effective school security strategy.  we like to consider ourselves as part of this team,  where we can really understanding the bespoke requirements.  At St Margaret's the benefit of working in this way is allowing for the historical significance of the school and creating a plan to keep it safe and secure for many more years to come.

Education Testimonials

A very prompt & courteous service, everyone we have had dealings with have been very friendly, helpful and professional, thank you.

St Adrian's Primary School

Richard, as things have almost come to a close regarding the above building, I thought I would drop you a line in order to say thanks for what Amthal have carried out there. As you know, it was a bit of a task getting the spec right and there were also variations towards the end that didn't help your engineers. However, all the security items have worked out very well and this is a great weight off my mind and the staff who occupy the building now. Could you also pass on my thanks to Dave (I'm sure this is his name). He was most obliging when we altered a few things at the end and his training presentation to the staff was first class. I'm sure we'll be in contact over the coming months and hopefully, we'll work together again on other projects in the future.
