The Office for National Statistics (ONS) latest crime statistics has recorded an increase in crime rates, including burglaries and robberies.
The new figures reveal the increase following a near continual decline in police recorded crime between 2004 and 2014.
A 10% increase in robberies were recorded alongside a 16% rise in car thefts, compared to results released in 2015.
The separate Crime Survey of England and Wales, which estimates offences including those that are not reported to police, suggests that 2016 crime levels were broadly stable with 2015.
Says Jamie Allam, Commercial Director of Amthal: “Although the increase in crime rates may be small, it is still significant in bucking the trend of recent years. We only need to look at the local spike in burglaries to see we cannot afford to be complacent in the fight against crime and must take security of our home, business and possessions to protect what’s precious.”
These are the final sets of crime statistics to be released before the general election.
