How to proctect your home - Phil's security tips!

Crime is never nice to think about, but by following a few of my easy to implement security tips you can ensure that you give yourself the best chance of avoiding uninvited visitors in to your home while you are out!

  • Automatic plug in time switches available from most DIY stores are a great way of letting your house look after its self. A couple of low energy lamps in the hall, lounge and on the landing that all come on at dusk will mean that you can stay out on that unplanned night out after work without your property looking like a black hole the middle of your road. An opportunist burglar loves nothing more than finding a property that looks as empty, as he is about to make it!
  • Security lights on the driveway and above the back doors are a must! Simple floodlights with motion detectors will not only put off potential intruders but will also make your life a lot easier when trying to find your door keys in the bottom of that bag.
  • Never leave notes on your front door or change answer phone messages to advertise the fact that you are going out and when you're coming back. If you are expecting someone either wait for them or risk missing them. Even a "back in ten" note will give a thief the incentive to stick around if they see you put it out, and believe me a burglar can do an awful lot in two minutes let alone ten!

Follow these simple tips to help protect you and your home through the gloomy winter months.
